PREPARATION BEFORE CRUISING
- Check the water and oil for basic maintenance of the engine.
- Make sure you have as much water and fuel as you will need.
- Ensure the boat's durability and that there is enough fuel for the engine.
- Check the use and battery status of your navigation lights.
- Check the operating status of your radio.
- Make sure the bilge pump is working.
- Complete the checks of the materials you need for safety. (Life vests, safety belts, lifebuoys, strobe horseshoes, flares etc. as many as the number of people in the crew) )
- Check the documents that must be on the boat. (Amateur Competence Certificate, Private Yacht Registration Certificate, Tonnato Certificate, Radio License, and Marine Radio License)
- Check that the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea are on board.
- Getting information about the weather is important for your cruise.
- Determining your route will make it more pleasant for you to enjoy your cruise.
- Having maps of the cruising area is important for the route.
- Make sure you have enough drinking water and that your rations are complete.
- Make sure that the crew and guests wear their shoes.
- Open your logbook, enter the first entries, if you do not use a logbook, you can also take notes in a simple notebook.
- Make sure that all guests on the cruise are present.
- Whether the guests know your boat or not, their knowledge about the sea is important for cruising.
- Please do not forget to inform your guests about your boat and the sea before the cruise.
- Provide information about the introduction of safety equipment and where they are located.
- The age group and number of your guests are important for the cruise.
- If there are curious children among your guests, do not forget that if you inform them and increase their passion for the sea, they will become good sailors.
- Do not forget to remove the covers from your sails.
- Do not forget to take your sheets to the cranes.
- Do not forget to tie the items inside the boat so that they do not slip or hang them so that they do not sway.
- Check that your navigational aids are in working order. (GPS, autopilot, radar etc.)
- It is important for the cruise that you share tasks between your crew and your guests.
- If you have guests who are unfamiliar with the sea, giving them preliminary information about your maneuver and how to proceed afterwards will both give them confidence and ensure that they have a pleasant time.
- Before the trip, inform everyone about the location of the MOB (man overboard) button if you have a GPS.
- Before traveling, publicly announce the location of the engine stop lever or switch.
- Remember that in a MOB (whether you have a GPS or not) the only task of the first person to see is to follow the overboard visually, without doing anything else. S/he is the one who can save lives by giving direction.
